11) Harbour Master’s Building (19thC)

The Harbour Master's Office, BarmouthWhat is now the Harbour Master’s Office was once the abode of fishermen and old photographs show the house rising from the rocks and sea. It now also carries a plaque that commemorates Harold Lowe, 5th Officer on the Titanic, who bravely saved many lives on the terrible night in 1912 when the ship went down. He lived in Barmouth for a number of years. Lowe’s fame came from his use of the Titanic lifeboat, but Barmouth had launched its first lifeboat in 1828 and it has done magnificent service ever since in attending many calls for help, saving many lives.Harbour Master's Office
